*Students will be learning how to utilize the RACE strategy to answer "short answer" essay questions with complete answers while citing evidence. This skill will be practiced and used throughout the year.
Sixth Graders will generally have a Vocabulary Test every other week, alternating with the Spelling Tests. The words are listed below. The definitions can be found in the Vocabulary Workshop book and on the Google Slides Presentations found in Google Classroom. The presentations will be available after the students have been introduced to the unit words in class.
It is a good idea for the students to regularly review the Google Slides presentations and create their own flash cards for studying the words and definitions.
I also suggest using the following sites to learn and review your vocabulary words. You will want to select Level A to find the unit that we are currently studying.
For Spelling this year, we will be using the 6th Grade: Building Spelling Skills book. Printed lists will typically be given to students on Monday. These lists will be stapled into their planners. Throughout the week, they will be working through practice activities to learn their words. These activity packets will be due on test days and will be graded for completion.
Each list has 20 words and the tests are worth 20 points. Students are not required to write their words in cursive, but they can if they prefer. For extra practice and to earn a bonus point on their tests, students can write their words 2x each on a piece of loose leaf and turn it in on the test day. NOTE: The 2x each on the first page of the spelling practice packets will not be accepted for a bonus point.
