What will we learn about in English this year?

We will build literacy and language skills by reading, discussing, and writing about a range of topics across many genres.  We read poems, stories, plays, myths, legends, biographies, and informational articles, as well as many other genres.  

By the end of the year, you will be skilled at:

• Citing textual evidence to support your inferences and claims

• Explaining an author’s point of view or purpose

• Determining the theme of literary texts

• Determining the central idea of informational texts

• Determining the meaning of unknown words and analyzing authors’ word choice

• Comparing and contrasting related texts across genres

• Producing formal, clear, well-organized writing to inform, entertain, and  persuade
