Sessions 9 & 10
This module focuses on Principles 3 and 4 of the EL Roadmap by looking deeply at how teachers can support and leverage system conditions to be most effective for English learners. System policies and practices include grade level teaming, whole school articulation and assessment. Culturally and linguistically valid and reliable assessment, which supports instruction and attainment of English proficiency, is one way that teachers can create the conditions that allow ELs to thrive. Teachers need high quality professional learning, consistent opportunities for colleague collaboration, and refinement of their craft. We will look deeply at the role of formative and summative assessments in supporting multilingual learners and explore how teachers can maximize collaborative opportunities with their staff. We will close the EL Roadmap Module series with shared reflection on teacher practice and next steps.
