The course Theorizing Housing practices in India's Second Cities works with the challenge to familiarize oneself with a city while physically being distant. It asks questions like: What is Emergence? How are emerging contexts of urbanization in India’s second cities shaping housing demand, the spatiality's of house and home? What theoretical frames help advance a study of housing practices that emerge from such concerns? To understand this idea we read a few texts by realist thinkers like Graham Herman and Philosophy and Simulation by Manuel DeLanda. We looked at these cities through various lenses or points of view such as Education ,Tourism, growth of IT sector ,environmental concerns,

Emigration and so on. We focused on identifying housing types that have emerged in the Second city of Tiruchirappalli. To study the housing development we initially focused on the emerging contexts in these second cities and studied them individually by looking at the city using newer forms of media like Instagram, YouTube, Justdial / 99acres, news articles, google maps (to understand the current geography), looking at historical maps of the cities to follow their development , govt. District census Handbooks and images to make sense of the context of the city as a whole. These emerging contexts of urbanization were then used to identify and study the housing typologies in the city of Tiruchirappalli.
