Course Outline- Through this course we have developed a deep understanding of mangrove ecosystems, including their ecological significance, role in biodiversity conservation, and contribution to climate change mitigation. Through this module we have learnt to integrate environmental flows and ecosystem services into architectural designs to create sustainable and environmentally conscious spaces and analyze the social and economic importance of mangroves to local communities, gaining insights into the challenges and opportunities for involving communities in conservation efforts. This module also gives a hands-on experience through field visits to mangrove ecosystems.
Site- ZEN GARDEN

Flows- HUMAN MOBILITY
Programme- In this module our intent was to increase the mobility of the humans in the mangrove .We observed that the density of people was greater near the Dmart which is near the metro station and then it decreases as we go towards the Zen garden ,however the mobility sticked towards the right hand side of the field. Hence our intent was to intervene in the mangrove without encroaching into it ,so we decided to play with different levels so that the mobility increases and the people can experience the mangrove at different levels. In our site we observed that there were children and adults used to climb up the wall when the park used to be closed so we decided to create a space which would incorporate and element of hiding and a labyrinth.
Iterations-
1-A semi open seating space in the mangroves
2-A ramp which starts from the Zen garden and opens into the mangroves
3-A ramp having different levels which opens into the mangroves
4-A viewing gallery
5-Viewing decks at different levels connected by ramps
6-In this iteration we were playing with three levels tidal level ,the mangrove level an the top level where the person can view the whole space.
underground elements were added to create a space where a person can experience different levels. The space acts as a labyrinth. It has different openings which allows the light to enter creating different experience.
