The site which we were given, which is the dahisar mangroves, has dahisar river cutting right through the middle of the forest. The locals there highly depends on boats for various purposes. How they use boats also depends on high and low tide
When there is low tide, locals use boats mostly for fishing. Fishing in low tide is easier because fishes and crabs are easily visible to naked eye and it is easier to catch them. Low tide also activates the feeding the ground for crows. Crows catch small crabs which are along the shore or not very deep inside the water. Locals also handpick a vegetable called upvas bhaji which they eat during fasting. Boats contribute to a major amount of their finances and is very important for them
In high tide, locals mostly use boats to travel as fishing is very hard since fish and crabs are very hard to find and the visibility is low. Crabs mostly go and hide inside their burrow making it hard to catch them. Locals also use boats as furniture and storage because since it is not in water it can be use as an extension of the house to keep things.

Our idea was to create a space which would have multiple programs which would ease up the life of locals living there and also provide them with financial opportunities without interrupting the flow of river.
3 DIMENSIONAL VIEW
The whole idea was to play with heights using ramps and steps while making the intervention. Our intervention is attached to the bridge which allows people to get easy access to the intervention directly from the bridge. There are 5 programs in total.Â
1. Entrance with ticket counter
2. Jetty
3. Ramp for boats
4. Sitting space
5. Deck with Pergola
Ticket counter serves the purpose of a collection and distribution of tickets for the jetty. Jetty provides space for people to access boats easily which was not possible earlier. Due to jetty, it is now possible for people to travel from dahisar to gorai jetty, malad marve and even bhayandar, cutting down the time it takes to reach this places. The ramp for boats makes it easier for boats to be taken on land as it has a very soft slope made with ratio 1:20. It also provides a platform for boats where they can be repaired, even parked when water is too low. While waiting for boat to arrive, people can occupy the sitting space which is directly accessible to people after entering, on the right side. People can sit, hangout and spend time here. Deck with pergola provides a vantage point for people to look and observe up till long distances enjoying the view of the mangroves
