System: Ventilation
We are redesigning a school in Borivali East, near the National Park. As part of the project, we are learning about systems like rainwater harvesting, ventilation, and landscaping. The goal is to create a design that works well with these systems while also being functional and efficient.
I am working on ventilation. To start, I studied the wind direction and sun path on the site to understand how to make the best use of them. The main winds on the site come from the west and northwest. In my first design, I focused on trying out different types of openings to bring the wind into the building.
I am designing a structure that improves airflow and trying to explore how the design can help manage and use the wind effectively while working well with the other systems.
Here are a few of my design iterations where I tried to use the existing contours to create clusters. The idea was to ensure the clusters are connected while also directing the wind flow into the structure as needed. I explored different types of openings, such as jalis and louvers, to understand how they can help bring air into the structure.
