Redeveloping a building changes the original nature and the experience of the form in a various ways. Now a days redeveloped building are all becoming a inward looking and loose the connection with the city and its population. A cluster of buildings on the same plot should also negotiate with each other providing a possibility of multiple interaction and conversations to happen.
The site is located in Borivali West, which has a area of 6513sqm and is surrounded by roads on 3 sides and one side is occupied by a school.
Here when built form is placed on the site, it is occupying 4 corners of the site, leaving the central space open for the air movement to happen smoothly. Distancing the 4 buildings and keep a considerate amount of space between 2 of them makes it a path for the wind to flow easily which results in the availability of proper light and ventilation for ventilation to each of the unit in the building.
The use of a space is very specific to the user and each one of them use a space differently according to their comfort. Their are also various types of inhabitation when it comes to a housing society, Each of the configuration of inhabitants requires a specific arrangement of space. The commercial space also follows the same logic where the configuration of space changes with change in the program.
The circulation becomes the key in this case, 4 buildings sit on 4 sides of the plot leaving the central space open and free for the public. 4 C buildings on 4 side is formed by the arrangement of the units, each of which is followed by a corridor in the front . Corridor in the front allows to keep the interaction active between the residents. The corridor then becomes a node of interaction which then further extends into a bridge between two buildings at four different levels. These bridges act as a community gathering space.
The ground floor becomes a commercial space which is open for the city to flow through, since there are 3 roads surrounding the building the movement of people can happen in 3 directions whereas the 4th direction acts as a space from where people can take their cars to the basement for parking. The whole circulation also goes till the basement. all the lifts are placed such that they lie in the center of the residential space. Staircases are placed on the outer side of each building allowing the people to access the various levels easily. All the staircases are attached in such a way that a person can access bridges without actually entering the residential zone.
The bridges allow a new possibility of open spaces happening at various levels. The residential zone starts from the 3rd level and initially two building connect via a bride on the consecutive 3 floors follow the same bridge. For the next set of three floors another bridge connects other two buildings, this connection continues till the last level creating a loop of connections.
