Problem Identification
The housing units were not in good condition, which in turn forced the residents to move outside of the space, where all the daily chores and interaction spaces are formed
The Service Infrastructure i.e the toilets are seen to be accumulated with garbage and other waste causing breeding grounds for mosquitoes and hence spreading various harmful diseases thus making it unhygienic.
Design Intent
A communal space which allows for daily activities in form of services to be carried out along with generating opportunities for interaction between people. The service cum social tower becomes a modular form with 5 basic components, which can be customised each as per the requirement of the site. The space is thought through various factors of gender, age, usability, kinds of services - wet and dry. Considering the site to have a peripheral form for worker housing, which is a major case of land availability.
Why?
Hygienic spaces increases health of workers, which in turn increases their productivity at work
Presence of creche, causes behavioural change in workers and encourages cleanliness and maintenance
Well maintained and hygienic spaces lead to sense of ownership and “home”, hence reduced migration cycle.
