My name is Rigo Paz and I am from Pacoima, CA located in Los Angeles. My first language is Spanish, however, I learned English during Elementary school. My parents are from Michoacán, México, and live in Los Angeles (Pacoima, CA). I obtained my B.A. in Spanish from UCI in 2001. My wife and I then moved to San Diego from Los Angeles in 2002 and one year later our daughter Laurita was born. I completed my Master's of Arts in Spanish Linguistics at SDSU in 2005 and then taught Spanish at Cuyamaca College, Southwestern College, and Mesa College from Fall 2005 to Spring 2007.
In the Fall of 2007, I landed a full-time teaching position with the San Dieguito Union High School District (SDUHSD) over at Canyon Crest Academy (CCA). I have been teaching Spanish 1 through 5 and AP Spanish Language and Culture at CCA since 2007 and had the opportunity to return to the Community College in 2012. I've taught High School for the past 17 years and have enjoyed teaching Spanish 2 through AP Language to High School students and Spanish 101-102 to young adults at MiraCosta for the past 12 years.
I enjoy traveling with my family and training in mixed martial arts in my free time. In 2016 I had the opportunity to travel down to Tijuana, Mexico with the organization Casas de Luz along with current as well as former CCA students to help with home builds for families in need. I've been fortunate to be part of numerous home builds with the Casas de Luz organization and every opportunity is an adventure I can share with student and parent volunteers.
