Parents/Guardians
Ways to support your child with Academics:
Provide a quiet place for your child to do their schoolwork
Establish a set time each day that your student will do homework, read, or study for tests
Once a week, sit with your student to:
Review teacher websites/Google Classroom to plan for the week ahead
Review Aeries to check assignment completion and test scores. This offers an opportunity to recognize a job well-done, or to acknowledge improvement. If student has missing assignments, help them problem-solve and create a plan for improvement. Click here to view information about Aeries and Google Classroom.
Attendance is essential to a student's ability to access the curriculum. Should they be absent, students can view teacher websites, or call a class buddy for what they missed. It is also the best practice for them to talk with their teachers upon their return about what they missed.
Teacher communication: if you have questions or concerns about how your student is doing in a class, we always recommend that parents/guardians contact the teacher directly. Teacher contact information can be found on Staff Directory pages of website.
SDUHSD Grade reporting for the 2023-24 school year
Level Changes: SDUHSD 23-24 Add/Drop Guidelines and Schedule sets a four-week limit at the beginning of each semester to address level changes in English and math. Level changes are dependent on class space/seat availability.
Per the Board Policy on Grades-Evaluation of Student Achievement:
Grade Point Average The Superintendent or designee shall calculate each student's GPA using the grade point assigned to each letter grade in accordance with the scale described in the above section "Grades for Academic Performance" above. The grade points for all applicable coursework completed shall be totaled and divided by the number of courses completed. Pass/Fail grades shall not be included in the determination of a student's GPA. When plus and minus designations are added to letter grades, they shall not be considered in determining GPA.
In the case of continued heightened academic concerns a parent/guardian, teacher or counselor may initiate the Student Study Team (SST) process when previous interventions have been unsuccessful (view Map of Interventions). The student study team identifies the student's strengths, areas of need and outline agreed-upon actions. Follow-up meetings will provide a monitoring intervention strategy to maximize the student's academic and overall school experience. For more information, contact your student's counselor.
