USEFUL Grade Information
Labs are stamped on the last page of the lab in the science notebook. Completed labs with appropriate responses using complete sentences receive full credit. Some labs may be scanned and uploaded to google classroom to be graded.
If you see a blank "red" box for a score in AERIES it is due to an absence. Lab should be completed and shown to teacher to receive full credit as soon as possible.
If you see ZERO for a score in AERIES it is because your child did not have the lab complete on the day it was due. LATE labs/work should be completed and shown to the teacher to be graded. Student should take initiative to get late work graded.
Most of the class is dedicated to working on the labs either writing the guiding question, initial thoughts (hypothesis), collecting data, reading, or answering analysis questions. The majority of students will complete the lab in class or have a short summary for homework. If your child is coming home with the majority of the lab incomplete, this is because they were off task during class and were not working on the lab. The goal in class is to complete all work here!
Any labs that require reading or a lab template with analysis questions will be available on google classroom. If your child says that they cannot complete the lab because they do not have the lab, please check google classroom for the reading for that date. Additionally, there may be slides, videos, student examples, and KEYS to help with what was missed in class.
Labs are due the next class period unless stated otherwise. Generally two labs are completed each week.
Ways to help your child be successful:
1. Stay involved in their lives! IN EVERY WAY!!! throughout their academic life.
2. Help them stay organized.... encourage them to pack their backpacks the night before with all school related materials.
3. Ask them about school... upcoming tests, homework, future important project dates. Encourage them to use their daily agenda to record all school work to stay organized. Check their agenda book.
4. Set up routines for homework completion Ex) after school all assignments are completed before any privileges are allowed. Check for completion.
5. Use AERIES regularly. Encourage your student to show you their AERIES grades...meaning they know how to use and log on. This is a very useful tool for a student. (Maybe set up a routine that they log on and show you their grades on Friday).
6. Set up clear expectations with necessary consequences and rewards.
7. Praise effort.
