I am a SDSU graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences for Mathematics. I have my credential in Mathematics through SDSU, and I have completed the Master's program for Mathematics Education (MATS) at SDSU. Also at SDSU, I developed a new class on math for non-math majored undergraduates. I eventually modified the work from that course for Advanced Topics in Mathematics.
Here I am with some of our Class of 2014 graduates.
As a student teacher, I taught Pre-Algebra at De Portola Middle School with Mr. Johnson, and then I taught AP Calculus and Pre-Calculus at Serra High School under Mrs. Fore. Here at CCA I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to create a course: Advanced Topics in Mathematics. I have also taken a lead role in adapting AP Calculus to better fit our Integrated Mathematics curriculum. A short time ago I was coaching JV Girls Golf in the fall and assisting Boys Varsity Golf in the spring...and even a Disc Golf enrichment course too!
As a full-time teacher, I taught at Coronado High School for three years and was very impressed with the culture of learning. The courses I taught included Algebra I, Geometry, both Honors and Regular Algebra II. While there, I worked with the school and district staff to develop a Common Core Geometry course where the main mode of instruction was via a flipped classroom.
During my first year at Canyon Crest Academy I taught Honors Pre-Calculus, AB Calculus, and a Disc Golf Enrichment Course. I am very impressed with my students who passed the AB Calc AP exam with a rate of 94.9% in 2015. During my second year I was still in awe of how dedicated our students are! Pass rates for AB and BC were 93.75% and 100% respectively-wow! I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to teach at CCA. In my 4th year, 100% of my students passed. During the Spring of 2020, when we were remote, only one student didn't pass and that was only because of a technical issue of a solution not being uploaded. Now in year seven I can't wait to see how well we are going to do!
To the right is my first ever Drive Thru graduation, it was really nice to see everyone again. One of the best parts of that graduation was that I could talk with all of my students versus a traditional graduation where it can be so hard to find people.
I believe SDUHSD is the best district in the county and I hope I have given back the district all that it has given me. I am also very proud to say I am a former fellow with Math for America San Diego, a program that seeks to better the teaching methods and levels in our schools.
I am very excited to start the school year and am looking forward to teaching AB Calc and Advanced Topics.
