HOW DO I SEARCH FOR AN EBOOK?
If you're looking for a specific book, or a specific type of book, please use the search bar. This will show you what we have available.
You can also check out our curated collections. These are books grouped together by theme. Collections available include:
Popular Middle School Reads
Manga
Graphic Novels
Best of Non-Fiction
Marvel Comics
Classic Literature
... and many, many more!
HOW DO I CHECK OUT AN EBOOK?
Find a book you want to read and click on the blue 'Borrow' button.
You get to borrow the book for seven days, and at the end of this period, the book will automatically be returned . (You can return it sooner if you would prefer).
HOW DO I READ AN EBOOK?
Students can read eBooks on their District Chromebooks. However, you can also download the Sora app on your personal devices and read that way too. Sora eBooks can also be synced to Kindle e-readers.
If you need help getting this set up, please call into the Learning Commons and ask Mr Richards to help you.
DO YOU HAVE AUDIOBOOKS?
We do! You'll find a full collection of audiobooks available to you, including the entire Harry Potter series and many other popular titles. Perfect for if you're travelling and need something to pass the time.
WHAT ARE HOLDS?
Sometimes you might find that another student has already checked out the eBook you want to read. In these instances, you can click 'Place Hold' and reserve it for when it becomes available.
Note 1: hold times are less dramatic than they seem. Cut the number of weeks in half for a more accurate wait time.
Note 2: you can adjust the settings in your account to receive a notification when your book is available.
DO YOU TAKE REQUESTS?
Of course. We try to fulfil student requests for eBooks and physical books wherever possible. Please see Mr Richards for more information.
ANYTHING ELSE?
Yes! All CVMS students can use their Sora accounts to access the County Library eBook collection too. Click 'Add Library' in your account and search for 'San Diego County Library'. With a click, you can now toggle between the District collection and the County collection. (If you can't find a book in one, try searching in the other).
Note: Middle school students can only access books classified as 'Juvenile' in the County collection. When you get to high school, this expands, and you'll be able to access 'Young Adult' books too.
