CJSA is volunteering at this year's annual Turkey Giveaway and Resource Fair on Saturday, November 22.
This community event is a wonderful opportunity for families to come together, receive a free turkey, and connect with other local non-profits offering valuable resources and information.

The Reading Legacies Book Bridges program is designed to benefit children and youth who are experiencing a stressful lack of connection to a parent or other family member due to incarceration or substance addiction problems. These children are often confused about their parents’ absence, and this causes worry and fear about when they will see them again, etc.
Reading Legacies provides connections for these children by empowering their incarcerated parents (and other family members) to connect to the child positively. Through workshops, still separated from their children, they are video-recorded reading a storybook for their child(ren) that is then mailed home with the book. By watching their parents read aloud to them, healthy parent-child interactions are provided at a time when this may be impossible in any other way.
As a volunteer, you will:
Facilitate workshops inside correctional facilities with 1–2 other volunteers
Engage with up to 10 participants per session.
Discuss the importance of reading to children and younger family members.
Assist participants in selecting an appropriate children’s book
Coach participants on reading the book out loud on video
