Midterm Reflections

On March 28 (week 10 of 15), we paused to take stock of the digital work. Professor Pollard asked students to review the collaborative timeline and map in advance of class. Students were asked to reflect on the following questions in advance of the conversation:

  1. What kind of arguments about space and/or time are being made (or could be made better)?
  2. What "worked" (or didn't) in terms of making use of the digital platform for thinking about time and space?
  3. What benefits does the digital platform have over a non-digital method of conveying similar information and historical argumentation about time & space/place?
  4. How do the projects make use of ancient sources and modern scholarship?
  5. What kind of argument do you want to make in your final DH project for this class and why?
  6. What do you want to emulate (or avoid) in the making of your own project?
  7. What are some of the "Lessons Learned" about DH modes for historical argumentation (about periodizing Roman History and about the political use of space in the Roman City)?

Dr. Lach joined the class for the conversation, which focused on how to make temporal and spatial arguments in anticipation of the students beginning their final solo digital projects.

Look for a blog post about the conversation, coming soon!
