It is clear that Chicano Park is a very important and symbolic landmark in San Diego. From the beginning this community has fought for the park to create a space for them to be free and embrace their culture. Barrio Logan is not only a place, it is a sliver of Mexican American life that travels all across the borderlands. Understanding the overall impact the Chicano park takeover had on Mexican American communities along the borderlands allows us to better recognize the power in which the gathering of people has. Chicano Park Day adds to this with keeping the history alive. It is crucial to understand that this movement clearly allowed for the Chicano community to be seen in a new light but also opened the doors for what this community can do with their voices. As years pass the park continues to thrive with culture and community, creating a space where everyone is welcome and celebrated. Today, Chicano Park stands strong and well with a full force of community standing behind it. The shops are colored with colorful paints, local businesses are open, murals are being renovated and the culture is staying alive. Chicano park will continue to flourish as a San Diego treasure and gather people regardless of the struggles that they may face. The legacy of the Chicano Park takeover will forever live in the history of Chicanos everywhere.Â
