The Academic Learning Center Peer Mentoring Program began in the 2023-2024 academic year. The program was designed in order to create a sense of community and belonging for our freshmen and transfer students at SDSU-IV. Each Mentoring Coach will have no more than 6 mentees per semester and will meet with their mentees in-person. A pilot program will begin in Spring 2024 to allow mentees and mentors to meet virtually.
The goal of the program is to have mentees work with the mentor to create academic and social goals for the semester. During the winter or summer break the mentees meet all the mentoring coaches in a meet-and-greet event at SDSU-IV to help choose their best fit for coach. During the semester the mentors and mentees will meet for an hour, biweekly, and work on a Mentoring Action Plan (M.A.P.) to help keep track of goals and expectations. Evaluation surveys are done for both mentors and mentees mid-semester and end of semester. These surveys are designed to improve the design of the mentoring program.
If interested in applying as a mentee, applications are accepted during winter break and summer break. Please be on the lookout for an email regarding the ALC Mentoring Program.
The Academic Learning Center Mentoring Program is part of an extensive network of mentoring programs in conjunction with SDSU Mentor and Success Coaching Collective. The SDSU Mentor and Success Coaching Collective is composed of peer mentoring and coaching programs and serves over 3,300 students from different backgrounds.
