This year formally assigned homework will include a reading log as well as a math worksheet. In exchange for the overhaul of homework, I ask that you spend additional time on things that correlate to student success. Some examples of this include eating dinner as a family, special interests of your child, organized activities, read together, play outside, and get your child to bed early. Any work that is not completed during the school day will be sent home for homework. Throughout the year, students will have non traditional homework, such as cooking or trying something new outside.
Math: Students will have a worksheet that coincides with the practice for the day. I am asking that students spend no more than 20 minutes on this sheet. Meaning, if the sheet is completed in 20 minutes, great... less than that, even better! But if it is taking more than 20 minutes to get through 3 problems, please stop!! Also, students should not spend more than 2 minutes on a problem. If they do, please encourage them to more onto another question and return to that question is there is time. Write a note on the page or email me and we will continue to practice in the classroom. If you forget the sheet at school, you can access the page on the e-text found here
ELA: Reading log, 30 minutes of reading per night with written summary of what was read.
Science/ Social Studies: These assignments will include skills to help students explore or become outstanding citizens, They may not be traditional, however they will be useful! There will also be times when students will be given projects for these subjects- so keep your eyes open!
