Every student participates in self-exploration, career assessments, research, and postsecondary planning through Xello lessons and activities. This scope and sequence builds self-awareness in middle school to informed planning in high school. Counselors, teachers, and support staff provide individualized coaching.
Dedicated staff like school counselors, and homeroom teachers offer one-on-one meetings to advise students on career assessments, developing goals, selecting courses, exploring interests, and postsecondary planning based on each student's unique needs. Personalized options for students are considered as they might fit best, including college coursework, credit recovery, virtual electives, work experience, teaching assistantship, accelerated sequence of courses, independent study, etc.
Teachers work closely with individual students during homeroom periods to provide coaching on using Xello, taking career inventories, researching options, and updating their ACPs. They identify any additional support needed.
School counseling staff meets with students and their parents in 8th and 11th grade Planning Conferences, and students only for 9th grade. During these meetings, parents are invited to share their thoughts and ideas as the student is provided support in developing a meaningful plan.
Special education staff and ELL staff collaborate with school counselors to integrate appropriate accommodations and modifications into ACP instruction and activities for individual students.
Students' ACPs are reviewed annually with advisors to update their goals, interests, and postsecondary plans based on their evolving needs and preferences. The Xello platform allows customized documentation of each student's academic and career development journey.
