Teachers through Homeroom provide support to all students with developing their ACPs. Students have multiple touch points throughout the year to update plans. Xello portfolios enable students to track progress and completion.
Every student is assigned a dedicated teacher advisor through homeroom who they meet with daily. Advisors guide students through ACP activities, goal-setting, assessments, research, and portfolio development.
School counselors/Homeroom teachers/Advisors deliver classroom lessons and facilitate individual meetings to advise students on career and academic interests, postsecondary options, and developing plans. Counselors connect students to resources.
In accordance with SDOJ board policy 5460, all students must successfully complete an Academic and Career Planning portfolio, demonstrating what they have learned about themselves, goals they have set, and steps they plan to take to reach them. In grades 9-12, students save careers, colleges, goals, inventory results, and more to their portfolio. Senior year, students must present their portfolio as a part of a senior exit process.
