Dear Parents and Students-

Thank you for taking the time to read through this Career Planning website and Course Description Guide. It is very important that each student carefully chooses his/her classes based on their own future plans. It is equally important that parents are part of this process. This Course Description Book/Website has recommended and required courses for each grade level and summaries of all courses offered at Ladysmith High School.

The classes chosen in high school set a foundation of knowledge and prepares students for life after high school. These are important choices and should not be taken lightly. I encourage you to discuss as a family and talk with a guidance counselor, teacher, or administrator if you have any questions.

It is also important to choose the appropriate classes because the choices that students choose is what is used to determine the master schedule- which courses are offered, the number of sections of each class, and ultimately staffing. When you choose a class, you are committing to taking that class. It is very difficult to change classes once the master schedule has been created due to course conflicts and limited space in other classes. Schedule changes will be made for the following reasons:

The student…

Failed a course that needs to be repeated before they can move on the next course in a sequence.

Needs a course to meet graduation requirements.

Was placed in an incorrect class and/or has not met the prerequisites for a class.

Was placed in a class due to a schedule conflict.

Any other schedule change requests will be evaluated by the guidance counselor and/or school administration based on any extenuating circumstances and course availability.

If you have any questions about the scheduling process or course selections, please contact Student Services.
