● Festival-themed reading activity ●
The Lantern Festival Puzzle has been in operation for nearly ten years and involves the participation of all students in the school. Every year, the students are given the opportunity to participate in the Lantern Festival by combining Chinese zodiac signs, phrases, epigrams, and sayings, etc. First, the students are allowed to have fun together with their parents and children during the winter vacation, and then they are divided into groups to compete and play various interesting games, so that the students can have fun in a fun and educational way.
In recent years, Halloween has also begun to incorporate common themes from various fields, allowing the entire school to team up to solve the puzzles and tasks.
● Interdisciplinary reading ●
In recent years, on Children's Day, elementary school students from four neighboring schools have come to the school to experience the cross-domain reading program at Shidian High School. We have combined the SDGs activities so that the high school students can lead the elementary school students to gain an in-depth understanding of how to integrate the SDGs into their lives.
For the past ten years, the students of Shek Anh High School have participated in international book fairs. Through the planning of international book fairs, the students are able to broaden their horizons and conduct international cultural exchanges. In recent years, we have participated in the Thailand Pavilion, the German Pavilion, the Dutch Pavilion, and the Finnish Pavilion.
In addition, the Book Hunt is also a key reading activity in our school. Based on the book “The Book Hunt Game”, the reading teacher modified the activity and divided it into two parts (the guaranteed level and the grabbing level). Each class was divided into two groups, and each group discussed and assigned the levels to complete the class task together. In addition, teachers from different areas of the school will work together to design subject-related puzzles, which will be placed all over the campus for students to search for puzzles and get the gifts in the treasure box, which is a very diversified, interesting and life-oriented topic.
● Hometown walking tour ●
In order to let students know more about their hometowns, we have planned photography lectures, hometown awareness, and hometown walking courses during the summer and winter vacations in the past few years. We will lead students to learn about the geography, history and humanities of Shidian District. They will learn the techniques of fieldwork and take a walk along the old Tamlan Road and the East and West Streets of Shidian. They will also visit the local specialty stores such as Bumi Tianjie, Shitoujia, and Yuanguang Tieguang Shop.
We also have exchanges with foreign students at the National Chengchi University, and students from Japan, Korea, Albania, Thailand, and other countries share the characteristics of their hometowns with each other. Our English teachers also help our students to strengthen their English speaking skills and engage in multicultural exchanges.
● Immersive reading ●
Every Monday morning study hall is a regular morning reading time in the National Middle School of Shi An Ding High School. Through immersive reading experiences, students read books together in peace and quiet. Every month, students read at least one book and complete a reading passport. Reading teachers will also guide the students to read related books, leading them to have a more diversified experience.
In addition to reading books together, students also read the student newspaper together every Friday and are encouraged to submit articles or participate in the prize quiz for the graphic arts team. Starting from this year, we have added English picture books to our program. We have invited foreign teachers to help us with the reading of English picture books and arranged online quizzes for the students, who have performed very well and gained a sense of achievement from reading.
The morning reading activities also incorporate digital reading of English picture books and provide opportunities for reward-based quizzes to stimulate student engagement
