A: Use the information on this website as a reference for your orientation. Contact a SDCCE counselor for CD orientation and to create an education plan. *Child development does not require students to have a program orientation prior to registering for class; however it is a best practice to discuss your career pathway with counselors as soon as possible.
A: Certificates can be picked up at the West City Campus after you have followed the directions below to order your certificate.
Step 1. Fill out the Consent to Release Educational Records Form release-09012023.pdf
Step 2. Send the completed, signed and dated form to Nelia at ncarbaug@sdccd.edu
Step 3. Request will be acknowledged via email that the Release Form has been RECEIVED.
Step 4. A second email will be sent to the student when the request has been processed and is READY FOR PICK-UP.
A: Students must receive an "A", "B", or "C" AND "Satisfied" for successful course completion that leads to eligibility for the connected program certificate.
A: Students who received a "Not Satisfied" did not successfully demonstrate all required course competencies for certification. Students are encouraged to enroll in the same course the following semester to demonstrate the remaining competency requirements successfully.
Please speak with your instructor prior to the end of the semester. Considering an "I" (incomplete) will stay on a student's transcripts forever. Instructors have been recommended to give students a letter grade such as "C" and "not satisfied".
A: Yes - with the stipulation that there is room in the class, though this is not recommended. The returning student cannot take the place of a new student wanting course completion.
Students are highly encouraged to take the next course in their career pathway to make progress toward earning a program certificate. Students are encouraged to review course options on the Child Development Pathways Chart and discuss goals with their counselor.
A: Canvas course material will not always be accessible to you, typically becoming inaccessible on the last day of the semester. Students are suggested to save their work offline throughout the semester in a Microsoft or Google document. When copying information from Canvas, always obey copyright laws regarding reproduction, distribution, or modification of the information presented, which may be the intellectual property of your instructor, the institution, or a third party.

Release of Student Information:
Student privacy is our priority. The office cannot release any information about the student, even to an instructor, without a signed release of information. The only exception to this is the student contact list which has been approved by the District Office.
If a student wants information released to a particular instructor, a Release of Information would need to be signed by the student and scanned to us along with the photo ID. Please have the student contact Student Services and we will send them the form.
Verification of enrollment and transcripts
Students can print out their current class schedule online to provide to agencies for verification of enrollment. If there is a form that needs to be filled out by an agency the student will need to submit a Student Help Ticket and upload the form along with the signed Release of Information and a copy of their official picture ID. The form will be returned completed within 5 business days.
Students may also request transcripts, but we are only compiling a list of students and are not processing transcripts at this time. The Student Services team is working on how they will be able to process these requests.
