Students identify the "5 Ws and 1 H" (who, what, when, where, why, and how) and complete a template with the corresponding information they have found in the article (Template 1).
Students could also just use their notes from the lesson, lab, or homework assignment (Template 2).
Finally, students use their notes to write a 20-word summary called a GIST.
This strategy is geared toward vocabulary and really goes hand in hand with Marzano’s template (you’re already familiar with that!) with a little extension.
