Students come to STEAM class once a week for 45 minutes as part of their specials rotation. In class, we focus on hands-on exploration of materials for engineering and problem solving. Students come up with their own ideas and persevere through challenges they face. When conducting experiments or tests, students are encouraged to use logic and critical thinking to draw conclusions from their evidence. Â
We do not strive to be "right" or "perfect" in STEAM class. Rather, the importance of certain behaviors is stressed throughout each new skill or concept.
Curiosity- asking questions and exploring new concepts
Creativity- having many ideas
Flexibility- open-mindedness to new ideas or ways of doing things
Collaboration- listening and sharing ideas
Critical Thinking- analyzing information and using it to make logical decisions
Perseverance- seeing a task through to the end
Growth Mindset- reflecting and finding ways to improve
Team Work Challenges:

Students learned about accuracy and precision, then used the engineering design process to build catapults from a set of materials.
