The STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) class uses a program called FUSE which was developed by Northwestern University. The philosophy behind STEAM is that students watch a series of step by step videos to independently learn different software programs. The teacher acts as a facilitator, with the students becoming the experts in the challenges. Other students look to these experts or the videos for help rather than the teacher giving them answers. This type of learning enhances student independence in learning, problem solving, and creativity.
