Middleton Media Center
Welcome back to school, Bulldogs!
MEET MS. GLASER
LIBRARY MEDIA SPECIALIST
MISSION-VISION STATEMENT
Welcome to the library!
Hello! I'm delighted to be back for my fifth year at Middleton.
I have always loved libraries and reading. In fact, my grandmother and my aunt were school librarians. It's no surprise then that I chose this career!
I grew up in Skokie, so our diverse community is close to my heart. After graduating from Niles North, I received my Bachelors degree from Northwestern University. I hold a Masters in Library and Information Science from Dominican University, with a special certificate in school librarianship.
In my free time, I love reading (of course), traveling, hiking, baking, and spending time with my friends and family.
You can contact me at bglaser@sd735.org
The Middleton Media Center empowers students to become independent, life-long learners. Students collaborate, create, communicate, and think critically in pursuit of 21st-century skills. They interact with literature, investigate their queries, and engage in problem-based learning through high tech, low tech, and no tech options.
Our program goals include:
Foundational literacy: Reading is a fundamental ability necessary for academic success, personal growth, and lifelong happiness. The Media Center provides students and teachers with a diverse array of literature. The library media specialist supports students in developing reading skills and discovering books of interest that reflect the school and world community.
Information literacy: Research skills are key to success in school and beyond. The Media Center supports students in learning how to access, analyze, evaluate, and use both print and online sources for research.
Digital and technology literacy: In an increasingly digital world, the Media Center acts as a leader in preparing our students for the future. The library media specialist promotes responsible online citizenship and guides students and teachers in the thoughtful use of educational technology.
Problem-Based Learning: Hands-on educational experiences allow students to fully engage with learning and increases the level of comprehension. The Media Center provides hands-on activities that promote 21st century skills. These opportunities include no tech, low tech, and high tech tinkering.
HELPFUL RESOURCES: ACCESSING EBOOKS
Students can also access free ebooks on Tumblebooks (log in with your Skokie Public Library card here).
MEET MS. HAGGERTY, LIBRARY ASSISTANT
Greetings! This year will be my 15th year working at Middleton. I began as a tutor in the Reading Discovery program back in 2006 and continued as an interventionist in reading and math for all grade levels until 2016 when I became the assistant in the Media Center. I love working with children and I love working in the school library because it is such a happy place.
My family has lived in this school district for over 23 years. My own children all attended Meyer, Middleton and McCracken and are now all 20-somethings working in schools too. Sarah’s a preschool teacher in Wisconsin, Dan is a high school teacher in Chicago, and Grace is in graduate school pursuing her Master’s Degree in Social Work and interning at a middle school in Denver.
I love reading (naturally!), writing, gardening, walking around the neighborhood, and swimming.
