First Grade Curriculum
The First Grade Curriculum is based off of the Common Core State Standards. Click on each of the subject areas to learn more about that topic and it's resources.
Homework
Practice is an essential part of the learning process. It provides a way for your child to work on skills and strategies that have been taught in school. It allows your child to share and celebrate new learning that has taken place in school each day. It also fosters the homework habit and the sense of responsibility that comes from taking work home, completing it, and returning it the very next day.
Expectations for Homework in First Grade
You can expect your child to have homework in reading and spelling each week.
First graders will bring home books from school each day. These books are from student independent reading book boxes, or have been read during guided reading groups. Rereading these books at home promotes strategy practice and builds reading fluency.
First graders will maintain a reading log in order to communicate their at-home reading experiences.
Your child should also practice reading, writing, and spelling Word Wall words .
Homework should be quality work .
