Homework

Daily Homework

Each student has homework every school day. Students should be reading either on their own, to someone, or with someone for at least 20 minutes per day. In addition to home reading, students should be practising their math facts for 10 minutes daily by; playing math games (Math Home Bag-cards, dice or Prodigy ), review flashcards, make up a problem or problems and check your answer with a calculator or ask an adult to check it for you. Finally, students should spend 5 minutes daily practising their word work by; sorting words based on spelling patterns (paper copy sent home every Wednesday), playing Spelling City (weekly words are loaded into online games), read-cover-spell-check words on paper (or ask an adult to "test" you), writing out the words, get creative with spelling the words (play-dough, letter tiles or magnets, etc). This equates to approx 35 minutes of homework per day.
