Welcome to our W̱SÁNEĆ Year investigation!
Throughout the year we will explore the W̱SÁNEĆ Year that is made up of thirteen different moons.
Each moon speaks to the weather, plants, animals, economic, and cultural activities that come with that time of year. You will also have a chance to reflect on what each season brings for you and your family.
Before we get started with our monthly journals you will complete two introductory activities.
Information has been taken from and activities have been inspired by the teaching resources available from the SD63 Indigenous Education Department.
As explained in the "The Saanich Year" document:
"We honour our elders by recording this information. In particular we honour the memory of Dave Elliott Sr. who recorded much of the information in the book "Saanich Year".... We wish to thank John Elliott and Earl Claxton, Sr. for the original work "The Saanich Year", and the art and the artist's explanation on each card."
