PHE: Today was our introduction to PHE, the kids were sorted into their classes. We then began going over the rules and guidelines of PHE (physical health education) and then finished with a mixer game!
Friday Flex: Today we spent more time in the computer lab organizing our google drives, and mastering our log-in's. Students then had time to write a practice paragraph to ensure that they know how to share documents...we then finished with a fun quiz game!
Social Studies: No lesson today, on Monday we will start completing some intro lessons on global geography. This will help students grasp some of the important concepts that we go over later in social studies 6.
Science: No lesson today, we will begin our unit on space on Tuesday.
ELA: No lesson today, we will begin our ELA course on Tuesday. For the first term we will be focussing on paragraph writing. Specifically, we will be looking at expository writing, descriptive writing, persuasive writing, and narrative writing.
Today is our final homeroom based day, we will start our PHE and FAAS courses tomorrow as well as our normal academic schedule.
Block 1: This morning we began with the famous West Pod Carousel. For this activity, the students move as a group through each classroom in the west pod, this is a great chance to get to know all the other teachers in the pod.
Block 2: For block 2, I took the students through the curriculums of each of the four core academic subjects (math, ELA, social studies, and science). We also spent time organizing our school supplies so that the students are ready to begin their academic learning tomorrow. I've provided a link to the course curriculums below.

Block 3: Today we did some mixer activities in the gym with Mr. Steven's class, we did a dynamic warm up followed by some team building challenges, we then finished with a fun game of dodgeball!
Block 4: Today I took the students to the computer lab to get them set up for the year, we went over how to log in, how to bookmark tabs, as well as how to access google drive. It is VERY important that students know how to access google drive from home, I've posted instructions below, they are also on the front page of my website.
Username: studentnumber@saanichlearns.ca
Password: same as at school
This will open up a new page/portal where students log in just like at school (student number and password)
If you need your password reset, please contact me ASAP.
Today and tomorrow are both homeroom based days, we will start our PHE and FAAS courses on Friday as well as our normal academic schedule.
Block 1: Today we began the day with some name games and get to know you activities. I also distributed bus passes to the students who have ordered them. The students then spent some time designing their name tags for their desks as well as organizing their school supplies.
Block 2: At the start of the block we had our grade 6 assembly where our school admin took the students through our school rules and expectations, the students also had time to ask any questions that they wanted. I then distributed the locks for the lockers and students had time to practice, those that they mastered the lock had a chance to load up their lockers with their belongings.

Block 3: For this block, I took the students down to the mini-gym for some physical activity. We continued with some team building and name games, and then just played some PE games for fun!
Block 4: For the last block of the day, we spent time finishing our name tags, mastering our locks, and working on our "hoodies". The hoodies are a paper cut out that the students design and fill with information about themselves, these will be displayed in our classroom on the wall!
Today we met for the first time as a class, I took the students on a quick tour of the building and went over some basic expectations and routines. Tomorrow, the students will need their school supplies, and ideally proper footwear for a few fun activities that we will be doing!!
Looking forward to a great year!!
Cheers, Ryan
