Social Studies: Today's class began with our first fire drill of the year. Following this, we did a 20 minute silent read/work period. Following this, we reviewed some geography. We will truly start our booklets next week and we will plan to write our geography quiz next Thursday or Friday.

Science (Social Emotional Learning): Today's block began with 20 minutes of silent reading. Following this, we did a lesson using a series of lessons designed by teachers here on mental health and the developing brain. Generally on Wednesday's during block 3 we do a flexible block where we cover a variety of topics on top of the general curriculum.
Math: Today we reviewed section 1-1 and continued working on section 1-2. We also did a brief lesson on rounding. Rounding is the main focus of section 1-3.

Science: No lesson today, we will begin our first unit on space and the universe tomorrow.
ELA: Today's class began with the distributing of the student's schedules. Following this, we went to the south lab to set up our google drives, and look at how to properly format paragraph assignments. On Monday, we will begin looking at expository paragraphs. Paragraph writing will be the focus for term one.
PHE: Today the class met in the gym to be sorted in to their FAAS and PHE classes. Students have now received their schedules so they should know where they are going for each block! Today, we did some fun intro games with the other classes.
Math: Today we began working on unit 1 (place value & rounding). Following a brief lesson, the students began working on section 1.1. I've posted a great video below for student reference.

Block 1: We began today with our grade group assembly in the MPR. Following this, we spent another 10 minutes organizing our school supplies in our desks and lockers.
Block 2: For block two we completed the famous West Pod Carousel. Students went around each classroom in the west pod. This is a great chance to meet the other teachers and get familiarized with the west pod.
Block 3: Today we went to the big gym, we spent some time doing name games, get to know you games, as well as some fun free time with the sports equipment. A great chance for the kids to get to know each other better!
Block 4: Today's block 4 was broken up into two parts. For the first half of class we went to the south computer lab. During this time we practiced logging in to the computer and on to our google drive accounts. For the second half, we went to the learning commons for a book check out!
Other Notes
-Students taking FRENCH will need a BLUE duo tang. French/Sencoten classes will start next week.
Block 1: Today we began the day by going over some basic routines, rules and expectations. Following this, the students designed their name tags and began working on a "hoodie" for our first class display.
Block 2: During block two we continued working on our hoodie designs, we also organized our school supplies.
Block 3: During this block we began the "great lock lesson". Students were given their locks and assigned a locker for the school year. Students are encouraged to take their locks home to work on memorizing their combinations. I've posted a useful video below.

Block 4: To start the block, we went through the four academic subjects curriculums, discussing what we will be learning and how students will be graded, receieve feedback, etc. We then finished our hoodies and name tags and watched my favourite math video of all time (linked below). Tomorrow we will play some games and have our grade wide assembly, we will start our regular academic programming on Friday.

First day of school! Today we began by meeting the students out on the field to sort them into their classes. Following this, I introduced myself to the students, we went on a tour of the school, and went over some basic routines and expectations. Tomorrow we will do some get to know you games, create our name tags and "hoodies", and begin working on mastering the art of the 3 number combo lock. Looking forward to a great year!
