Here you will find several online learning sources to help support language needs.
In your child's report card, I may have suggested specific areas to work on. Look through each section to find games and activities in the area your child may need additional practice in.
You need phonemic awareness and an understanding of phonics to read and write.
Letter Recognition is seeing a letter and knowing what it is. Phonemic awareness is just the sounds of a word. Phonics is knowing which sounds belong to which letters. Example: I know 'A' says 'ah' and 'ay'. I know 'Ph' says 'f'.
To be an effective reader, you need to decode and understand the words, make connections to what you have read and what you already know, and think deeply about what you read.
Decoding is using your knowledge of letter-sound relationships and letter patterns, to correctly pronounce written words. Children can then recognize familiar words quickly and figure out words they haven't seen before.
Vocabulary is understanding the meaning of specific words.
Comprehension is understanding and interpreting what is read.
