The Oh So Familiar Research Story

We all know this story:  

• Teacher assigns research project, books the library and/or computer lab for students to properly research and collect information.  

• Students go to Google, type in their topic, find Wikipedia article - research done! 

Good research and resource acquisition skills are hard to develop in students when the dominant research tool of the day is the an Internet flooded with information.  As teachers, we all know that our library is one of our greatest sources of trusted reliable information but often find it hard to convince our students to use it efficiently.  

What if there was a way to combine both?  

What if there was an easy way for students to search online, in a manner they are used to, that highlights our most trusted library resources first?  

Well now there is with the Destiny Discover Chrome extension.

This extension lets you and your students quickly search and retrieve information from Mount Doug’s own library and resource catalogues including books, ebooks,digital resources, databases, and open education resources.

Just follow the steps below, share with your students and be on your way to better research. 

You may have noticed this extension is still in Beta and not all the resources (like some databases) are being searched.  Here is what Destiny Discover has to say about that:
