Mount Douglas Secondary's School Garden is run and maintained by the Environmental Leadership Program!
It is mostly maintained by three groups, along with the great help of Ms Kucher:
Garden Growing and Project Group
Harvest and Sales Group
Native Garden Group
A noticeable part of the School Garden are the plant beds where food is sustainably grown to be used in the school or sold. The beds are located immediately upon entering the garden (in the southeast) as well as by the sidewalk (in the northeast), with each bed having a different combination of plants. The school garden is mostly maintained from the garden sheds, where KELP members may gather before volunteering or starting new projects.
When not used by KELP, garden-grown produce is often available for sale to members of the school. Produce sale events are announced to the school, usually on Thursdays at 3:15pm. Additionally, there may also plant sales on special occasions.
Located in the southwest corner of the school garden (far left corner from the entrance) is the native garden. Here, local plant species grow much like they have for thousands of years, coexisting with other animals in the ecosystem to help with pollination.
