School Counsellor/SOGI Contact
My name is Mitchel and I am a settler on this unceeded land of the Lkwungen-speaking people. I was born in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa and am now living, parenting and working with deep gratitude on the traditional territories of the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations.
As the School and Indigenous Counsellor at L’Ecole George Jay Elementary, I am passionate about fostering growth in students' self esteem, promoting resilience, and exploring communication, decision-making and social skills as outlined in our curriculum. I am also committed to enhancing the personal, social, cultural and educational development of all students in collaboration with parents, guardians and teachers. I am the SOGI 123 contact and participate in the SD61 Gender and Sexuality Alliance Advisory Committee. It is an honour to support and counsel students and their families and I am fortunate to collaborate with a team of compassionate and incredible people who also support our students and families!
In solidarity!
