Welcome!
The Arbutus Makerspace is a place for students and teachers alike to design, create, tinker and build. Do you have a project idea that you want to explore? We can help make it happen.
We know there is a lot to choose from, and while that is a great thing, it can also be overwhelming. The vision for this site is to provide you with ideas and inspiration as well as tips and How To videos on almost anything our Makerspace has to offer. Teachers, talk to your Teacher Librarian to get ideas about how to incorporate the makerspace into your curriculum.
Kids learn better through trying things out, making mistakes, re-evaluating, trying again and then sharing their learning with others. The Arbutus Makerspace is an opportunity for you to incorporate physical, tactile learning into your lessons.
Our vision is to create a space for you and your students to explore and learn together. Don't worry if you don't know it all right away. You will learn alongside everyone else. Use the knowledge and expertise from the class to push your own learning and create an experience for your students that steps outside the realm of paper and a whiteboard.
There are endless videos and websites to help teachers and students get inspired and learn more about Makerspaces. Scroll down and tour the rest of this website to see a growing collection of tips and links to help you on your Makerspace journey. If you have any suggestions or ideas to add to this growing site, email aputman@sd61.bc.ca and we will do our best to add them.
Happy making!
