Arbutus Makerspace is set up in our library. So, your teacher will need to book the space or you will need to come during a time that is available for Makers.
We have so many fun and educational tools and kits for you to try out! Your teacher might want you to use something specific or they might give you the opportunity to try anything you like. Either way, the rules are simple:
Take out only one kit or activity at a time.
Make sure you know where all the parts are and keep them in front of you at all times.
If you are working in a group, make sure everyone agrees to help set up and put away together so that no one is stuck cleaning up by themselves.
If a part gets broken, tell the librarian or your teacher right away. These things happen, but we need to know about it so that we can replace it.
Please exercise caution when using tools. Glue guns, exacto knives, wood burners and hammers can burn, bruise and cut. Be very careful and don't goof around when using them. If you do get hurt, tell your teacher right away!
Use what you need, but don't be wasteful. If you are using wood, leather or acrylic, can you find a way to use less by being diligent about how you place or cut it out?
Clean up EVERYTHING you have taken out and put it back where you found it. Put scraps in the garbage or the recycling if they are unusable, but keep anything that could possibly be used again.
Have fun and be creative but also be aware of what you are doing and who is around you. Share your space and the kits you are using.
