Big Idea: The theory of plate tectonics is the unifying theory that explains Earth’s geological processes
Essential Questions: How can we share what we know about geological features in the Sea to Sky?
Real World Connection:Students made geological understanding relevant by putting it into a local context.Students had to present their tour to a panel of experts that knew the content very well.Students knew that their tour could be chosen for our class to participate in.

The Sea to Sky Geotour Project
Students learned how geological features are formed (plate tectonics, mountain formations, glaciers, volcanoes) and then created a geo-tour to share what they have learned.
We were required to:- Choose 3 physical features of the Sea to Sky- Using scientific language, explain how and when they were formed- Include an aboriginal legend about how they were created- Create a tour that our class could take to showcase this learning
Students then presented their tour to a board of experts that included a local geologist (geology expert), Tourism Squamish director (tourism expert), and school board member (competency expert). Based on class generated criteria, the panel chose a winning tour that our class then went on.
My Reflection: “I liked this project because we got to choose a lot. Plus, we got to actually go outside and do the tour, which was really cool.”
My Teacher's Reflection on our Group: I think what speaks the loudest to student engagement in this project came from the group that created the “winning tour”. This group of boys exemplified collaboration, contribution, creativity and critical thinking. They were so proud of their work and thrilled to teach our class what they had learned.
