Suggestions for communication to families -select which blurb applies below
Option #1
Dear Families,
The BC Ministry of Education adopted a new Reporting Order for the province last school year. This creates some changes in how teachers report or Communicate Student Learning. School District #48 is providing teachers with options to roll this out over three years, please see below for more information on what to expect.
I have chosen Option #2 (Year Two of a three year roll-out) which means that this year:
· I will be focusing on sharing evidence with descriptive feedback of your child's progress in the areas of literacy, numeracy, social studies, and science through a digital portfolio and/or physical portfolio.
· The remaining subject areas will be reported on in detail through the Written Learning Updates ( previously known as report cards).
· Some subjects will only be assessed (proficiency scale) in 2 Written Learning Updates while you will see an assessment (proficiency scale) on all 3 Written Learning Updates for other subjects.
· Rather than letter grades a performance scale will be used for students in K-Gr 9.
· I will continue to update you on what to look out for as it pertains to our class.
Many of the teachers at our school have been part of this learning for the last few years so although the changes are now mandated by the Reporting Order, many of the changes will be familiar to our families in grades 1 and up.
We are all learning together so If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly for more information.

I have chosen Option #3 (Year Three of a three year roll-out) which means that this year:
· I will be focusing on sharing evidence with descriptive feedback of your child's progress in all areas of the curriculum through a digital portfolio and/or physical portfolio.
· The Written Learning Updates ( previously known as report cards), will have far less information as the detailed information will be coming home as evidence through a portfolio.
· Some subjects will only be assessed (proficiency scale) in 2 Written Learning Updates while you will see an assessment (proficiency scale) on all 3 Written Learning Updates for other subjects.
· Rather than letter grades a performance scale will be used for students in K-Gr 9.
