• What Is Infinity?

• Infinity, also referred to as Differentiation, is designed to support students who are excelling in the general education classroom and would benefit from opportunities for deeper learning, greater challenge, and increased academic enrichment.

• Infinity is not a gifted education program. Rather, it provides differentiated learning experiences that allow students to extend their knowledge, develop critical-thinking skills, and engage more deeply with grade-level content. 

• Who Does Infinity Serve?

• The Infinity Reading and Math program serves students in third, fourth, and fifth grades who demonstrate a need for additional academic challenge and opportunities for deeper learning.

• When Do Classes Meet?

• Students participating in Infinity will meet with the Infinity teacher during their grade-level intervention block. This scheduled time provides students with opportunities for targeted instruction, enrichment, and deeper learning.

What Do We Do?

Infinity provides students with opportunities to engage in rigorous, enriching learning experiences that encourage critical thinking, problem solving, and deeper understanding of grade-level and advanced content.

Mathematics

Students engage in in-depth, problem-based learning that challenges them to:

• Explain and justify their mathematical thinking and problem-solving processes

• Apply mathematical concepts to above-grade-level challenge problems

• Develop deeper conceptual understanding through rigorous mathematical tasks

Reading

Students participate in novel studies that provide opportunities to explore grade-level and higher-level standards in greater depth. Students may:

• Analyze an author’s craft and writing style

• Compare and contrast themes across texts

• Examine how authors develop ideas, characters, and themes

• Engage with two novels during each trimester

Depth of Knowledge

Infinity instruction emphasizes Depth of Knowledge (DOK) Levels 3 and 4, encouraging students to analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and apply their learning in complex and meaningful ways.

• Who Provides Grades for Students?

• Mathematics

• The Infinity teacher is responsible for assessing and assigning student grades for mathematics.

• Reading

• The classroom teacher is primarily responsible for assessing and assigning student grades for reading, with collaboration and input from the Infinity teacher as appropriate.
