Agenda and homework folder:
Students are responsible for maintaining an agenda and a homework folder. A daily initial from the teacher means that the agenda has been filled out accurately. Please make sure you sign the agenda each day to show that you have checked for homework and are aware of your child’s daily behavior.
Homework:
-Students are expected to read independently for a minimum of 20 minutes each night.
-Spelling
(Rice) Spelling words should be practiced/reviewed each night.
(Gossen and Jordan) Identify two words from each night's reading that follow the week's spelling pattern.
-Math homework includes practicing math facts and any work not finished in class.
*Homework will be specified on your child’s agenda.
Spelling Activities:
Spelling instruction will focus on specific spelling patterns, high-frequency words and Greek and Latin roots. Students will also be expected to know the meaning of the prefix, suffix, and root word.
Assessments:
Spelling assessments will be given weekly. Math, grammar, reading and vocabulary assessments will occur as we complete units of instruction. Students may retake most assessments, on their own time, to improve their score.
Student of the Week:
Each week, one student will be selected to be our Student of the Week. This student will have special privileges throughout the week.
Snacks:
Each student needs to provide their own water bottle and personal snack. Lunch is at 11:30 each day. We will have snack time at 10:00 and 3:00 each day.
