SCHOLARSHIPS

Below is a list of scholarship opportunities/resources that I have compiled through the years. They may or may not apply to you. Please note that requirements and due dates vary.

o VFW Voice of Democracy- Scholarship competition with a $30,000 grand prize scholarship. Students compete by writing and recording a broadcast script on an annual patriotic theme. Entries are due by November 1st. Please see me or the following link for more information. http://www.vfw.org/Community/Voice-of-Democracy/

o Fastweb.com is a website that students can join that will give information regarding colleges and scholarships. Most students receive the most from scholarship opportunities offered through the colleges or through local scholarships (which they apply for in the spring); however, it is good to be aware of some of the bigger national scholarship opportunities.

o State of Idaho Scholarships-Please visit www.boardofed.idaho.gov and click on scholarships to explore the Govenors Cup Scholarship,Opportunity Scholarship, Gear UP


o The Idaho Community Foundation (ICF): The ICF manages over 60 different Idaho scholarship funds. Each scholarship has its own criteria, application requirements, and review process. Most of the scholarships listed are for specific high schools or counties, but there are a few that may pertain to our students. To review the scholarship criteria and apply for the scholarships please visit: http://www.idcomfdn.org/Scholarships Scholarships to look at include the Alois and Marie Goldmann Memorial Scholarship Fund, Anne Veseth Memorial Scholarship Fund, Idaho Nursing and Health Professionals Scholarship Fund, Idaho Power Company-Kevin Whittier Memorial Scholarship Fund, Jim Poore Memorial Scholarship Fund, Mike Crapo Math and Science Scholarship Fund, and the Roger C. Sathre Memorial Scholarship Fund.

o D&D Rhoades Scholarship, eligibility criteria is that students are graduating (or have already graduated) from high school and that they intend to study a field related to agriculture. Apply on the Idaho Community Foundation website listed above.


o CIS Scholarship Information: Go to www.idahocis.org and login using the following user id and password: user id: prairie password: pirates#1

Click on the education tab on the top bar and then click on “Where can I get help paying for school? “ Here you can find answers to questions re: financial aid and learn how to apply for scholarships, grants, and loans. You can also see an extensive list of local and national scholarships. If you click on the financial aid sort, you can answer questions that will narrow down what scholarships you may be eligible.

o LCSC scholarship: Applications can be found at http://www.lcsc.edu/financialaid/scholarships-and-waivers Students should be sure all questions are answered and to check the box of each scholarship they wish to apply.

o Idaho County Farm Bureau: Read book “Road to Serfdom” and then take a test at Farm Bureau office on set test days.

o FAFSA: To apply go to https://fafsa.ed.gov and click on the “Start A New FAFSA” button. You will need social security numbers and previous year tax information. Students and parents will need a pin number in order to sign and submit the application. To get a pin go to www.pin.ed.gov

o Heartflight-ALC Services, Inc. Scholarship Fund: Scholarship is for a student going into the medical field and who is from a logging family. All applications will be considered. For application see Mrs. Quintal

o Dave Kludt-ALC Natural Resource Scholarship Fund: Student must demonstrate that they are related to an ALC Member and planning to attend college or technical school in the natural resource arena. Examples include diesel mechanics, truck driving, machine operation, forestry, biology, etc.

o McGregor Company: Standing Tall for Northwest Agriculture: The McGregor Company will offer up to three $1,000 scholarships students who will be entering college in an agricultural field of study. Applications can be found at: www.mcgregor.com
