Freshmen-on-Track Committee

Goal: A total of 85% of freshmen students at Bloom Trail High School will be on track to graduate by the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

Action Plan:

  • All freshmen teachers will contact by email the parents of each of their failing students

  • All freshmen teachers will, in the event the parent cannot be reached via email, make a phone call to the parents of each of their failing students

  • All freshmen students who are credit deficient by the end of semester one will be enrolled in night school to make up their missing credits

  • All freshmen teachers will keep PowerSchool up to date with accurate and current grades for all of their students

  • The counseling department will conduct one-on-one meetings with all freshmen students who are off track and help them create an action plan for getting back on track before the end of the semester

The FOT Team has been hard at work determining which freshman students are off-track and how to best facilitate one last "push" before the end of semester one. In addition to the classroom setting and teachers working closely with their students, the following plan is in place for the 72 identified 9th graders who are failing at least one core class.

Week of November 29

  • A letter will be attached to an all-call reminding parents of the importance of their student to be on-track academically. (The letter is attached; it is also being translated into Spanish)

  • Freshman teachers will be sent an email reminding them to keep grades up-to-date weekly.

  • Dr. Adams will be meeting with small groups - four students each - to introduce goal setting and discuss the importance of passing classes and its impact on high school progress, graduation, and overall GPA. Alpha-slice counselors will be invited to the small group meetings as well.

  • Each social worker will include academic goal setting within their weekly meetings with their students who are a part of the 72 off-track freshmen.

  • Resource teachers will be providing extra support to their students who are in need of passing one or more classes; a plan for getting students to attend tutoring is being created by the social worker and Mrs. Lorendo.

  • An email will be sent to freshman teachers reminding them of the Unit Recovery option.

Week of December 6

  • All freshmen will attend the Virtual Job Shadow (December 7) which has an interactive, virtual lesson on goal setting.

  • Dr. Adams will be working with students to hear of take-aways ensuring students understood the materials covered.

Week of December 13

  • Freshmen grades will be monitored by the Graduation Coach, Social Workers, counselors, and teachers.
