Framework for Enhancing student learning

2022 - 2023
As we learn and grow together, we need to look at where our school is and how we can move forward. Please click on the link and follow our journey with our learners.
We have family groups, which are multi-age groups and lowering the number of kids in each group, we are using our non-enrolling teachers, SST and admin to lead groups. Our focus has been on virtues that are organized monthly. Teachers are provided collaboration time to plan these meetings as well.
The goal of this Family Group program is to improve the sense of community at FES by building connections between students across divisions and grades as well as connecting students with new safe adults in our building. Our GOM (Goal of the Month) are in our morning announcements that are linked to our monthly virtue.
Measurable goals include a reduction in playground conflict and students self-reporting a greater sense of belonging. Also, our CCW, ISW and counsellar are a huge role in the success of our school. Lastly, our entire staff has bought into this need of providing support or being that person in terms of SEL needs with our students.
We have incorporated a Buddy Bench as well. Buddy Benches can benefit all children, not just the ones who are feeling isolated. It teaches children empathy by showing them how to recognize when someone else is in need and how we can be kind to them. This was driven by student desire as well.
For our literacy goals, we are focusing on data to drive our work. We are using snapshots in time like FSA's, report cards, reading assessements and formative daily assessments to help guide our learning. The students who are receiving extra time are then placed into EI ) Early Intervention)
We are all on the same page this year and with more pro d and time, the connection to home and school will improve. We are taking feedback from families and staff on how to improve our assessment and communication with school to home.
