Question: What impact will we see for all students when we focus our behaviour, instruction and intervention on the social emotional learning of our students?
Social Emotional Learning & Support along with Behaviour.
* At school and at homes
* Common language and common programs. A focus on “We Thinkers” with CCW in all K to 3/4 classes.
* Increased CCW time to build relationships and worked on lagging skills amongst our learners. For example, purple circle had an impact on our students.
* Admin contacted all staff in the summer. Their focus was on behaviour. Pro D was spent creating a common language, morning announcements, and weekly themes and we practiced that language in and out of our classrooms. Also, a behavioural flowchart, behaviour matrix and code of conduct were enhanced on.
* A true staff focus on kids first and coming together to have common language.
The staff has common assessment practices. We have a primary and intermediate assessment which allows us to gather data from the same assessment practice. This has been important as we track our data from grade to grade with our report cards as well as our reading assessment two times a year.
Another important aspect we noticed was class review information aligning with our assessment and where we needed to put support in class.
Supports: This has been the most raved addition to our staff this year, especially in our K - 3/4 classes. We have our two SST's and EI teachers using reading assessments along with report card data to group students to enhance our literacy at FES. Intervention has started in our older grades but that focus still tends to be on SEL and peer group work.
Culture. For kids and one another
Staff comfortable working with kids with a more of an inclusion model. SST, teachers, parents etc
Donations - Paperless
SWAG to make kids & staff feel connected
Meals, donations around Christmas within our community.
Literacy & a continuum. Also, lots of disussion around numeracy and Pro D for FES to again, build a continuum. Literacy is by far the first aspect.
