For 6th Graders
Important Information to know during your 6th grade year if you plan to apply for NJHS as a 7th grader:
6th graders cannot apply to NJHS! Students become eligible after 2nd trimester of 7th grade.
Earn good grades! Students are not eligible to receive an application in 7th grade unless their cumulative GPA is 3.72 or above! Cumulative GPA is calculated by averaging up the Grade Point Averages of all trimesters at Old Quarry.
Make sure you are part of at least THREE activities/athletics throughout the year. These can include in-school or out-of-school activities such as Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts, swim team, basketball team, Makerspace, Chess team/club, Crafty Crew, choir, drama, etc.. This may also include affiliations with religious institutions, such as being an altar server, religious education classes, or being in the church choir.
You will receive service hours packets in May. You will have to complete 20 hours between May of 6th grade and March of 7th grade!
For 7th Graders
If you are a 7th grader interested in NJHS:
Keep earning good grades! Remember that you will not receive an application unless your cumulative GPA is 3.72 or higher!
Make sure you are part of at least THREE activities/athletics throughout the year. These can include in-school or out-of-school activities such as Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts, swim team, basketball team, Makerspace, Chess team/club, Crafty Crew, choir, drama, etc.. Complete AT LEAST 20 SERVICE HOURS by the beginning of March 2026. Applications will go out in early March. It is recommended that you accumulate more than 20 hours of service in case some of the hours you have do not count. Remember: you should try to have multiple examples of service hours. You should not have 5 hours doing the same type of service.
For 8th Graders
If you are an 8th grader interested in becoming a member of NJHS:
1. Make sure you complete at least 20 service hours by the beginning of March 2026.
2. Continue working on your GPA! Either keep your GPA above 3.72, or work hard to get your GPA back up above it.
3. After 2nd Trimester report cards come out, please email Mrs. Ehn indicating that you are interested in applying for NJHS (We will also include announcements in the OQ Daily Announcements reminding you!).
We will then check your GPA. If you are eligible based on your GPA, we will provide you with an application.
This must come from the student. Invitations to apply are not sent to 8th graders without the student asking for an application.
