A powerwash factory resets a Chromebook and resolves many issues the device may be experiencing
Turn on the Chromebook or sign out to go to the login page.
Press and hold the following keys simultaneously: Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R OR Alt + R + Volume Up. This will open the Reset this Chromebook menu.
Click Powerwash.
A confirmation pop-up will appear. Click Continue.
The device will powerwash and restore to factory settings.
On the Welcome to your Chromebook screen, click Get Started.
Connect to the network:
Wifi: SCUSD-Guest
Password: scusdwelcome
Note: After logging in, the WiFi will automatically connect to the Staff or Student network (determined by the profile signing into the Chromebook).
At the Enterprise enrollment complete screen, click Done.
Sign in to the Chromebook.
Factory reset is complete.
It's critical to have an up-to-date Chromebook for testing
Power on your Chromebook.
At the bottom right, click on the Time > Settings (gear icon).
At the bottom left, click About ChromeOS.
Under Google ChromeOS, you'll find which version of the Chrome operating system your Chromebook uses.
Select Check for updates.
If your Chromebook finds a software update, it will start downloading automatically.
Restart the Chromebook if prompted to complete the update.
Useful when a webpage isn't loading or working correctly
On your computer, open Chrome.
At the top right, select the three vertical dots, then Delete browsing data... to open up a new window.
Select All time on the top menu.
Check Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and files.
Select Delete data.
Wait for the Chromebook to complete the job.
Allowing color inversion on a Chromebook is to assist with accessibility. However, on occasion this setting can be accidentally activated
Using the keyboard shortcut
Press the Ctrl + Search + H keys simultaneously.
Note: The Search key usually has a magnifying glass or a filled-in circular icon.
Through the settings menu
If the keyboard shortcut doesn't work, follow these steps:
At the bottom right, click on the Time > Settings (gear icon).
Click Accessibility on the left menu.
Click Display and magnification.
Click the Color inversion button to toggle the setting on/off.
When the keyboard shows "A" when "E" was typed or touchpad isn't responding
We recommend performing a Powerwash since it resolves many issues the device may be experiencing.
Check if the keyboard is set to English (US) settings
At the bottom right, click on the Time > Settings (gear icon).
Click Device on the left menu.
Click Keyboard and inputs.
Click Input settings.
Under Input methods, add or remove the input methods you want to use. The standard input method is English (US).
Chromebooks automatically connect to Staff or Student WiFi based on the account that signs in.
For example, if a teacher logs in to a Chromebook using their account, the Chromebook will automatically connect to Staff WiFi. If a student signs in to the same Chromebook using their account, it will connect to Student WiFi.
Anyone can connect to SCUSD-Guest WiFi (password: scusdwelcome).
