Here's a little bit of info to get to know me, before I get to know you!
My first name is Ya'ara which means "honeysuckle" in Hebrew (the flower in the photo at the top). I was born in Israel but grew up in the Bay Area with my immediate family. I speak Hebrew with my family that still lives in Israel. I have an older sister, a younger brother, and a younger sister. My family has two dogs, a fox terrier mix (Brandy) and a chihuahua mix (Milo). The newest edition to my family is my void cat, Eloise! Expect pictures of them to occasionally be shared during class throughout the year. If you have any pets, I would love to see pictures!!
I attended UC Davis for my undergraduate and graduate degrees. I am happy to now be exploring the Sacramento area. I enjoy hiking, going to parks, and eating delicious food! If you have any recommendations for good places to visit in Sacramento, I would love to hear them. (I recently learned about Gunther's Ice Cream, 10/10!!!)
My current obsessions include: paddleboarding on the lake and sushi
Math has always been my favorite subject. I love discovering patterns and solving complex problems, so much so that I pursued it in college and now have the privilege of teaching it. However, I understand that not everyone shares this enthusiasm for math.
In our class, I emphasize that learning math is a journey we embark on together. Whether you come in loving math, disliking it, or feeling somewhere in between, my goal is to help you find something enjoyable and rewarding in the subject.
Some concepts may come easily, while others may be more challenging, but remember that mistakes are a natural part of the learning process. Mistakes are opportunities for growth, and I encourage you to embrace them as stepping stones to success.
I am excited to see your progress and achievements throughout the year. Together, we will explore the fascinating world of math and discover its beauty and applications.
I'm looking forward to a fantastic year ahead!
